BERKELEY SPRINGS — The 2025 West Virginia Two-Senior Scramble Championship and Two-Woman Scramble Championship, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), were held May 9-10 at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs.
In the Championship Flight of the Two-Senior Scramble Championship, Chuck Workman, of Marlinton, and Jeff Harper, of Coolville, Ohio, extended their Day 1, six-stroke lead to eight strokes over the other nine teams in the flight, finishing the championship with a 17-under-par 127.
Rounding out the Championship Flight were:
• Van Stemple, of Shepherdstown, and David LaPierre, of Annandale, Virginia, (-11) 133
• John Crowe, of Ridgeley, and Craig Pancake, of New Creek, (-10) 134
• Hank Middlemas and Gary Hawkins, both of Fairmont, (-10) 134
• Tim Smailes and Jack Hunter, both of Berkeley Springs, (-8) 136
• Mike Boggs and Steve Buser, both of Hedgesville, (-7) 137
• Bart Willis of Logan and David Loggins, of Verdunville, (-5) 139
• Frank Mams, of Hedgesville, and Jim Carpenter, of Martinsburg, (-5) 139

The First Flight for the event featured 10 teams, with the same three teams tied for the lead at the end of the championship. Based on a scorecard playoff, the team of Buddy Butler, of Williamstown, and Scott Cozzens, of Vincent, Ohio, took the title with a 4-under-par 140.
Rounding out First Flight were:

• Bill Bonifant, of Martinsburg, and Tom Leslie, of Berkeley Springs, (-4) 140
• Glenn Boyles, of Fairmont, and Terry Warne, of Bridgeport, (-2) 142
• Robert Stemple and Tom Dodd, of Clarksburg, (+5) 149
• Ed West, of Moundsville, and Gary Gil, of New Martinsville, (+10) 154
• Wade Bramer and David Reider, both of Bridgeport, (+10) 154
• Lonnie Chrislip, of Idamay, and George Abel, of Grafton, (+11) 155

In the Championship Flight of the Two-Woman Scramble Championship, the team of Kimberly Eaton, of Charles Town, and Karen Kinnett, of Shepherdstown, extended their first day’s five-stroke lead to finish nine strokes ahead of the competition with a 4-over-par 148.
Rounding out the Championship Flight were:
• Drema Watts, of St. Albans, and Kim Smith, of Winfield, (+15) 159
• Melanie Collins, of Parkersburg, and Teresa Harper, of Coolville, Ohio, (+15) 159
• Janice Allen, of Daniels, and Mary Payne, of White Sulphur Springs, (+16) 160
The team of Claytina Shepherd, of Beckley, and Kathy Thompson, of Summersville, finished the final day of competition in First Flight with a 12-stroke lead over the other two teams, finishing with a 15-over-par 159.
Rounding our First Flight final scores were:
• Mendy Bays, of Kenova, and Lisa Moore, of Huntington, (+27) 171
• Beverly Eye, of Fort Seybert, and Amy Humphries, of Franklin, (+35) 179
“We love hosting the women and the seniors, so to have them both here for two days was great for us,” said Monty Goff, Cacapon Resort State Park’s head golf professional.
“We had a great two days of play here at Cacapon, even though we didn’t have the best weather,” said Sarah Cole, WVGA’s director of women’s golf and one-day events.
