Garland Arthur See, Sr. Garland Arthur See, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2025.

  He was the son of the late Arthur and Nida See.

  Garland was survived by his wife, Loretta K. Hammersla See; son, Garland See, Jr.; three step sons, Dennis Shawyer (Jackie)), Rick Shawyer (Lisa), and James Shawyer, II (Judy); step daughter, Penny Mutton (Perry); siblings, Betty Kent, Simon See (Connie), Carlton See, Russell See (Vickie), Rosalie Davis (Kevin); twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his son, Jason See; sisters, Gladys Daniels, Stella Fiddler, and Arletta Shingleton.

  Garland fought an exhausting battle with various forms of cancer. His resilience and strength were great, but his trust as well as his unwavering faith in the Lord was much greater. Because of that dedication we refused to say he lost

his battle to such a horrible disease but rather the Lord was a witness to his strength, perseverance, and determination, and with that whispered unto him “rest child of mine for you have fought a courageous battle and it is time for you to come home.” So, while we grieve his physical absence, we take solace in knowing his body is free from the ailments that burdened him.

  Garland was a kind, honorable, and light spirited person whom often found himself helping and donat-ing to others. Though he was sometimes a man of few words, you never had to question how much, he cared for all those that shared this life with him. He was a man with a witty sense of humor and almost constantly had a smile on his face.

  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

  Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Brown Funeral Home in Martins-burg.

  The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

  Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
