BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior third baseman Lauren Moore, sophomore pitcher Madelayne Ruffner and sophomore utility player Madelyn Chambers of the Shepherd University softball team have been named to the 2025 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Team as announced on Monday.

The trio gained first-team honors.

Moore tops the Rams with a .416 batting average, with a team-best 74 hits in 178 at-bats. She drove in a team-best 51 runs and scored 31. She topped the team in doubles (19) and home runs (12). Moore also led the team in slugging percentage (.725) and OPS (1.187).

Ruffner led the Rams in the circle with a 20-5 mark, with two saves with a 0.83 ERA. She fanned a Shepherd single-season record 316 and walked 30. She currently ranks first in the NCAA II rankings in strikeouts per seven innings, second in WHIP, third in strikeouts, strikeouts-to-walk ratio and ERA and fourth in hits allowed per seven innings.

Chambers was second on the team with a .390 batting average, with 67 hits in 172 at-bats. She drove in 23 runs and scored a team-best 41. She added 10 doubles, a team-best six triples and a home run. One of the team’s top base-stealing threats, Chambers was successful in 7 of 8 stolen base attempts.

Shepherd completed the 2025 season with a 28-24-1 overall mark. The squad became the seventh team in program history to make an NCAA II Regional appearance (2007, 2010, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021).

Blue Sox tryouts on Sunday

MARTINSBURG - Tryouts and THE first practice for the Martinsburg Blue Sox baseball team will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Musselman High School's baseball field.

Prospective players are asked to bring all equipment, as the first practice will follow tryouts.

WV Amateur Championship qualifier

CHARLES TOWN - The second qualifier for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place on Tuesday at Locust Hill Golf Course.

Drew Call, of Harpers Ferry, was the medalist of Tuesday’s qualifier with a score of 6-over-par 78. Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.

There were 20 players competing Tuesday for six qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship. The other qualifying players from today were:

• Lucas Riggleman, Petersburg, (+10) 82

• Lucas Watson, Hedgesville, (+12) 84

• Roland Wright, Shepherdstown, (+14) 86

• Brady Reed, Kearneysville, (+14) 86.

The alternates are Evan Matlick, of Keyser, and Chris Hafner, of Martinsburg.
